Bike path and trail markings in Martis Camp.

Martis Camp is off Highway 267 in Martis Valley, an easy run from the yard and a bit lower than the ridge communities above it. Robert E. Sutton Co. works out of Truckee, licensed in California and Nevada, and trail striping is one of the three things we do. Call (530) 587-4161.

What the work involves

Centerlines, edge lines, stencils, and crossing markings on paved paths and trails. Trail pavement is thinner and narrower than road pavement, which means edges and cracks matter more, not less.

Why it matters at this elevation

Fresh markings do practical work beyond looking sharp. They keep parking orderly so a lot holds the number of vehicles it was laid out for, they keep required lanes and stalls legible, and they signal that somebody is minding the property.

At this height the calendar is the constraint. The base needs to be genuinely dry before sealer will bond, and up here that usually is not until well into June. Work that has to cure gets scheduled early in the window rather than gambled on the end of it.

How the job runs

Most areas are back in service the same day, since traffic paint sets fast in summer conditions. Fresh work gets coned off until it will not track. When striping follows a sealcoat it is the sealer cure that sets the schedule, not the paint.

Martis Camp pavement specifically

The pavement here is newer than most of what we maintain, and it is held to a standard. Long private drives, association roadways, and amenity lots where finish quality is part of the point. Newer asphalt is exactly the pavement that pays the most from staying on a maintenance cycle instead of waiting for problems.

Estate driveways here are long, architect-designed, and expected to look flawless — which makes disciplined maintenance cheaper than any repair. We work to the community’s standards and schedule quietly around residents.

Layout gets confirmed before any paint goes down. Repainting a configuration that never worked is a common way to waste a striping budget.

Martis Camp sits at roughly 6,000 feet, and the pavement around it behaves accordingly. More on the area on our Martis Camp service area page. We work the same corridor through Agate Bay, Alpine Meadows, Alpine Peaks, and the pavement guides go deeper on the physics if you want it.

Questions

Do I need anything done before the trail striping?

Usually cracks. Sealing a surface without closing the cracks first leaves the water a way in under a nice new finish. We handle both, and we sequence them in the right order.

How often should this be repeated in Martis Camp?

Crack work is close to annual up here because every winter opens something new. Surface and striping work runs on a cycle measured in a few years, shorter on plowed and heavily used pavement.

What makes mountain pavement work different?

The season and the freeze cycle. Four working months instead of eight, snow load and plow traffic all winter, and a daily freeze and thaw swing that pries at anything left open. Maintenance schedules that work in the valley run behind up here.
