What the work involves

Layout, stalls, arrows, and legends, painted to hold up against plow blades and traction sand. Striping over fresh sealcoat is also the cheapest moment there will ever be to fix a layout that was not working.

Why it matters at this elevation

Striping is the guidance system of a property, and when it fades the property stops working the way it was laid out. Stalls get ambiguous, accessible spaces stop reading as accessible, and marked lanes stop being enforceable. It is one of the cheapest line items in maintenance and one of the most visible.

Up in the 6,300s, plow traffic and snow load are heavier than they are down in town, and it shows in the wear pattern. Sealcoat gets scraped off travel lanes faster, edges take more abuse, and any raised crack lip becomes a target for the blade. Pavement at this elevation earns its life from crack sealing more than from its last coat.

How the job runs

On a resealed surface the striping goes onto fresh black, which is both the best looking and the best bonding version of the job. On existing pavement we work over the ghost lines. Either way the paint needs dry pavement and enough warmth to set before traffic returns.

Dollar Point pavement specifically

Lakeview residential above the point, with driveways cut into the slope and an association road network holding them together. Sloped drives with a view are also sloped drives that drain across themselves, which is why crack sealing tends to be an annual item here.

Sun-side pavement here bakes at altitude while shade-side pavement stays frozen; both fail without maintenance, just differently. Dollar Point’s association neighborhoods sit on the bluff just east of Tahoe City — lakeview homes on winding streets with real grade to them.

Markings here have to survive plow blades and months under snow, so the restripe cycle runs shorter than an owner would expect from a lot down the hill.
