Parking lot striping in Truckee.

Crews reach the historic downtown, the railyard district, the Highway 267 side and the Glenshire turnoff inside a few minutes, which is why in town work often gets looked at the same week it is called in. Robert E. Sutton Co. works out of Truckee, licensed in California and Nevada, and parking lot striping is one of the three things we do. Call (530) 587-4161.

What the work involves

Layout, stalls, arrows, and legends, painted to hold up against plow blades and traction sand. Striping over fresh sealcoat is also the cheapest moment there will ever be to fix a layout that was not working.

Why it matters at this elevation

Snow country is hard on markings in a way that surprises owners who moved up from the valley. Between blade contact, sand abrasion, and the months lines spend buried, mountain striping does not last as long. Planning for that cycle is cheaper than being surprised by it.

At roughly 5,820 feet, this pavement runs through the full mountain freeze-thaw cycle every winter. It is still mountain pavement. Nights drop below freezing well into spring and start again early in fall, so anything that lets water in during those stretches gets punished the same way it does up top.

How the job runs

On a resealed surface the striping goes onto fresh black, which is both the best looking and the best bonding version of the job. On existing pavement we work over the ghost lines. Either way the paint needs dry pavement and enough warmth to set before traffic returns.

Truckee pavement specifically

Truckee pavement runs the whole range. Downtown commercial lots that see delivery trucks and winter foot traffic, older residential drives on the streets off Donner Pass Road, and district facilities on the public side. That mix means a season here is rarely all one kind of work.

From the historic downtown and the railyard district out to Prosser and the Highway 89 corridor, most of the driveways and lots we maintain are a few minutes from the yard. Same-week estimates are the norm in town during the season, and our client list includes the Town of Truckee itself along with the fire, sanitary, school, and airport districts.

Markings here have to survive plow blades and months under snow, so the restripe cycle runs shorter than an owner would expect from a lot down the hill.

Truckee sits at roughly 5,800 feet, and the pavement around it behaves accordingly. More on the area on our Truckee service area page. We work the same corridor through Agate Bay, Alpine Meadows, Alpine Peaks, and the pavement guides go deeper on the physics if you want it.

Questions

Do I need anything done before the parking lot striping?

Usually cracks. Sealing a surface without closing the cracks first leaves the water a way in under a nice new finish. We handle both, and we sequence them in the right order.

How long is my pavement out of service?

For most jobs, a day of work plus cure time before traffic returns, longer in shade or cool weather. Larger properties get phased so part of the pavement stays usable throughout.

Do you handle the whole job or subcontract it?

Our own crew does the work. Four people with a great deal of Sierra pavement between them, out of the Truckee yard. That is also why the schedule is finite and why booking early matters.
