DOLLAR POINT · SINCE 1965
Private and association road sealcoating in Dollar Point.
Dollar Point is just northeast of Tahoe City on Highway 28, a short hop once you are on the shore road. Robert E. Sutton Co. works out of Truckee, licensed in California and Nevada, and private road sealcoating is one of the three things we do. Call (530) 587-4161.
What the work involves
Association road networks get assessed segment by segment, then sealed on a rotation so no single season carries the whole cost and no stretch of road goes a decade bare. Crack sealing runs across the whole network annually underneath that rotation.
Why it matters at this elevation
The reason sealing pays here is the freeze line. Pavement at this elevation crosses freezing and thawing constantly through the shoulder seasons, and every crossing works on whatever water the pavement is holding. Keeping water on the surface instead of inside the asphalt is most of the battle.
Above sixty three hundred feet the snow load and the equipment moving it both step up. More plow passes mean more surface wear and more chances for a blade to catch something raised. Pavement here rewards a smooth, tight surface more than it rewards a fresh looking one.
How the job runs
Prep is most of the labor. Sweeping and blowing the surface, cutting back whatever is growing at the edges, treating spots where oil has softened the asphalt, and closing the cracks. The sealer itself is the fast part, and it performs exactly as well as the surface it went onto.
Dollar Point pavement specifically
Lakeview residential above the point, with driveways cut into the slope and an association road network holding them together. Sloped drives with a view are also sloped drives that drain across themselves, which is why crack sealing tends to be an annual item here.
We treat Dollar Point as part of our Tahoe City rounds — driveway sealcoats, crack routes on older asphalt, and fresh striping for the association amenities.
A coating on this pavement is protection against sun and water, not a repair. Where the surface has gone past protection, we say so rather than paint over it.
Dollar Point sits at roughly 6,300 feet, and the pavement around it behaves accordingly. More on the area on our Dollar Point service area page. We work the same corridor across the Truckee area, and the pavement guides go deeper on the physics if you want it.
Questions
Do you do private road sealcoating in Dollar Point?
Yes. Dollar Point is inside our regular service area out of Truckee, and private road sealcoating is core work for us. Call (530) 587-4161 or send a request and we will get it scoped.
Are you licensed for work in Dollar Point?
Yes. We hold California license 510637 and Nevada license 29573, classification A-8, which covers both sides of the state line around the north end of the lake.
Can I see what needs doing before committing?
Yes. We walk the pavement, tell you what condition it is in, and separate what needs doing now from what can wait a season. Plenty of pavement is not ready to need us yet and we say so when that is true.
