GRAY’S CROSSING · SINCE 1965
Parking lot striping in Gray’s Crossing.
Gray’s Crossing is north of Truckee off Highway 89, a few minutes from the yard once you are past downtown. Robert E. Sutton Co. works out of Truckee, licensed in California and Nevada, and parking lot striping is one of the three things we do. Call (530) 587-4161.
What the work involves
Layout, stalls, arrows, and legends, painted to hold up against plow blades and traction sand. Striping over fresh sealcoat is also the cheapest moment there will ever be to fix a layout that was not working.
Why it matters at this elevation
Paint has a harder life here than it does anywhere lower. Plow blades scrape it, traction sand grinds it under tires all winter, and altitude UV bleaches what survives. That is why mountain properties restripe on a shorter cycle than the same property would down the hill.
In the low 6,000s the season is real but not generous. Pavement at this elevation usually needs the snow gone and the base genuinely dry before sealer will bond, which in most years puts the start in June. Fall closes the window early too, so crack work is the piece that has to happen before the weather turns.
How the job runs
Layout comes before paint. We reference the existing configuration before it disappears, confirm stall dimensions and aisle widths, and place accessible spaces where they belong rather than where they happened to be. Then lines go down on clean dry pavement.
Gray’s Crossing pavement specifically
Association roadways, amenity and clubhouse lots, cart paths, and the driveways behind them. Golf community pavement carries light vehicles over a lot of surface area, so sealing and crack work go further here than they do on a truck route.
Communities like this one are exactly where maintenance pays best, because the pavement started sound.
Markings here have to survive plow blades and months under snow, so the restripe cycle runs shorter than an owner would expect from a lot down the hill.
Gray’s Crossing sits at roughly 6,000 feet, and the pavement around it behaves accordingly. More on the area on our Gray’s Crossing service area page. We work the same corridor through Old Greenwood, Truckee, Prosser, Tahoe Donner, and the pavement guides go deeper on the physics if you want it.
Questions
Do I need anything done before the parking lot striping?
Usually cracks. Sealing a surface without closing the cracks first leaves the water a way in under a nice new finish. We handle both, and we sequence them in the right order.
How long is my pavement out of service?
For most jobs, a day of work plus cure time before traffic returns, longer in shade or cool weather. Larger properties get phased so part of the pavement stays usable throughout.
What makes mountain pavement work different?
The season and the freeze cycle. Four working months instead of eight, snow load and plow traffic all winter, and a daily freeze and thaw swing that pries at anything left open. Maintenance schedules that work in the valley run behind up here.
